Course Description

High School Choir

 

Philosophy Statement:  God created the world with innumerous sounds.  Since the beginning God has given music to mankind to enrich lives and to enhance man's expression of love to his Creator.  The Bible gives several instances when men and women glorify and praise God through singing and the use of instruments.  Through the study and performance of music, students can focus their gifts and talents into expressions that reflect His beauty.  Music is a gift from God.

 

Course Objective: Students will recognize and review various music terms and demonstrate proper singing technique.  Students will sing to the glory of God and reach out to others by sharing the love of Jesus Christ through song.

 

Textbooks:      None

 

Materials:

• Sheet music and hand outs

 

Time Allotment: 44 minutes per day, 3 days per week

 

Course Content:

• The study and performance of choral music

 

Areas to be evaluated:

• Basic note reading
• Solfege and sight reading
• Proper singing technique
• Music vocabulary and basic theory

 

Additional activities:

• Various on and off campus performances and ministry opportunities throughout the year including the Sounds of the Seasons Concert at Stephen's Auditorium with the Central Iowa Symphony
