Philosophy Statement:   God, The Master Artist, is the author of all creation.  The universe He created is full of colors, textures, patterns, shapes and form to explore.  God has gifted individuals with creative expressions and abilities.  Through the use of meaningful artistic expressions and experiences, students are given opportunities to utilize their abilities to glorify God.  The visual arts can have a powerful impact upon its viewing audience.  Realization of such power is an exciting responsibility for students to demonstrate their Christian testimony to the community and society through the use of creative expression.

 

Course Objective: Students will be introduced to and participate with various art medias.  They will utilize the techniques and knowledge learned to complete art projects.

Course Description

Philosophy Statement:   The purpose of Christian education is to equip the Christian young person with the necessary skills to succeed in life.  As such, it is necessary to provide the student with a realistic, bibliocentric view of the world around him.  Our desire is to develop in the student the mind of Christ.  To this end, biblical truth and the teaching of a biblical worldview will be integrated in all academic disciplines, from preschool to high school.

 

Course Objective: The students will be introduced to Old Testament patriarchs, Kings, and prophets.  The students will recognize Christ as the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy and study His life and teachings.

Philosophy Statement:  God is the Supreme Communicator and has spoken to His people in many ways.  In His goodness, He has given us gifts and abilities to read, write, listen, and speak.  These language arts skills are the foundation and gateway to all learning.  Understanding and developing these gifts is essential in language arts instruction.  Through the study of language arts students will develop written and oral skills that are necessary in becoming life-long learners of God and His word, which in turn will enable them to be salt and light to the world.

 

Course Objective:  Students will understand and correctly use punctuation (periods, exclamation marks, and question marks).  Students will recognize complete sentences and the correct use of capitalization.  Students will become acquainted with the basic parts of speech –noun, verb, pronoun, and adjective.  Students’ compositions will reveal correct use of sequence and orderly thought, usage, and main idea.

Course Description

Library/ Media Center

 

Philosophy Statement:  Learning to use and appreciate the library is a life-long skill.  It cuts across all curricular areas school-wide.  “A library is a gathering of ideas, of information—put in order and shared.” (Compton’s Encyclopedia, 1993.)  Every student using the library learns more about God’s truth and applying this truth to daily life.  The library is a place where students can find needed information and good literature to feed their growing and developing minds.

 

Course Objective:  Students will be introduced to materials suitable for their reading level, proper library behavior, library procedures, and book care.  Students will learn the location and significance of a copyright date.  Students will appreciate seasonal, holiday, and curricular themes by reading picture books that reinforce the theme as well as completing an activity sheet or participating in a group discussion related to that theme.  Students will continue their listening and sharing skills, taking turns, and getting along in a group situation.  Students will compare/contrast two books.  Students will be introduced to tall tales and discuss fiction vs. non-fiction.  Students will be introduced to alphabetizing to the 2nd and 3rd letter to reinforce dictionary skills.

Philosophy Statement:  God is a God of order, and through the study of mathematics, students will appreciate the orderliness, exactness, and completeness that God has infused throughout his creation.  Through the study of mathematics, students can develop a better appreciation of the infinite wisdom of God when compared to the finiteness of man.

 

Course Objective:  The students will receive instruction in and demonstrate the ability to perform basic mathematical functions and problem solving in the areas of addition and subtraction of whole numbers, money, time, geometry, numbers to 1000, measurement, fractions, multiplication and division concepts, graphing, place value, and patterns to 100.

Philosophy Statement:  Physical Education is that area which centers on man and his physical development.  After an individual accepts Jesus Christ as his personal

Savior, the individual should maintain and develop his body to the glory of God.  Physical Education focuses on increasing student’s knowledge and affecting student’s attitudes and behaviors relative to physical activities.  Through the study of many physical activities, students will be encouraged to incorporate some form of physical activity into their lifestyle.

 

Course Objective:  Students will be encouraged to demonstrate maximum participation in physical activity.  Each student will develop fundamental skills, coordination, cooperation and teamwork.

Philosophy Statement:  Science instruction equips students to know and experience God’s basic eternal truths revealed through His creation.  Science deepens the students’ faith, understanding, and awareness of the eternal power and divine nature of God. (Romans 1:20)

 

Course Objective:  Students will recognize the parts of an insect and realize the complexity of the insect world.  Students will become familiar with the bones of the human body, and practice good nutrition.  Students will name the planets of our solar system and recognize the hand of God in creating our universe.  Students will understand the forces of nature and how they work to shape our weather.  Students will name the parts of a plant and describe the growth that takes place.

Philosophy Statement:  From creation to the present day, God has been involved in the governing of man.  By studying the past, we see how God works His will in the lives of those who follow Him and how He has spoken and intervened in history.  The study of history should yield an appreciation and realization of the things God has accomplished through people and nations since the creation of the world and His love and concern as He controls the events of world history.

 

Course Objective:  The student will learn of the beauty and greatness of the United States.  The student will learn why we pledge our flag, why we celebrate American holidays, and the meaning behind the patriotic songs we sing.  The students will learn about the people who built this country so strong and free and will learn to become good citizens of the United States.  The student will also learn about Christmas celebrations in other countries and about the country of Japan.
