Band

Philosophy Statement:  God created the world with innumerous sounds.  Since the beginning God has given music to mankind to enrich lives and to enhance man’s expression of love to his Creator.  The Bible gives several instances when men and women glorify and praise God through singing and the use of instruments.  Through the study and performance of music, students can focus their gifts and talents into expression that reflect His beauty.  Music is a gift from God.

Course Objective:  To prepare for two concerts: the Elementary Christmas concert and the Parade of Bands concert.  While preparing for these two concerts, the sixth grade band will educate itself through weekly lessons of learning new rhythms, dynamics, notes, musical terms, enharmonic notes, time signatures, chromatics, and scales.  All sixth grade band members have an opportunity to participate in the solo ensemble contest which is hosted by The Des Moines Public Schools in late February.  This is on a volunteer basis only.

Philosophy Statement:  The purpose of Christian education is to equip the Christian young person with the necessary skills to succeed in life.  As such, it is necessary to provide the student with a realistic, bibliocentric view of the world around him.  Our desire is to develop in the student the mind of Christ.  To this end, biblical truth and the teaching of a biblical worldview will be integrated in all academic disciplines, from preschool to high school.

Course Objective:  The students will survey part of the Old Testament, conduct an in-depth study of selected Old Testament passages, and participate in activities to help them apply the Scriptures to important issues faced by sixth grade students.  The students will become acquainted with Biblical history, and see God’s faithfulness to his people throughout time.
