Spanish 1
Philosophy Statement: God is the Supreme Communicator who spoke creation into existence. He communicates with us in many different ways. He has given us the gift of language that we may communicate with Him and with others. This gift brings with it the necessity of responsible communication. As we study in the Scriptures we see how the apostles and others reached out to those in different cultural and language groups. In today’s world it is incredibly important that Christians be able to communicate with those of other cultures and languages. High School foreign language classes begin an ongoing opportunity for multi-cultural awareness and communication.
Course Objective: Students will be introduced to the basics of the Spanish language and culture. They will develop beginning novice level skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing Spanish. They will learn basic vocabulary such as telling time, basic nouns, greetings, numbers, colors, everyday verbs, etc. They will develop a beginning awareness of and appreciation for the Hispanic culture as found around the world.
