Philosophy Statement: God, The Master Artist, is the author of all creation. The universe He created is full of colors, textures, patterns, shapes and form to explore. God has gifted individuals with creative expressions and abilities. Through the use of meaningful artistic expressions and experiences, students are given opportunities to utilize their abilities to glorify God. The visual arts can have a powerful impact upon its viewing audience. Realization of such power is an exciting responsibility for students to demonstrate their Christian testimony to the community and society through the use of creative expression.
Course Objective: Students will be introduced to and participate with various art medias. They will utilize the techniques and knowledge learned to complete art projects.

Philosophy Statement: The purpose of Christian education is to equip the Christian young person with the necessary skills to succeed in life. As such, it is necessary to provide the student with a realistic, bibliocentric view of the world around him. Our desire is to develop in the student the mind of Christ. To this end, biblical truth and the teaching of a biblical worldview will be integrated in all academic disciplines, from preschool to high school.
Course Objective: The students will study the Old Testament from Genesis to Judges to see the ways God worked with the Children of Israel and how He works in their lives today. Students will memorize Scripture related to God’s work with His people.

Language
Philosophy Statement: God is the Supreme Communicator and has spoken to His people in many ways. In His goodness, He has given us gifts and abilities to read, write, listen, and speak. These language arts skills are the foundation and gateway to all learning. Understanding and developing these gifts is essential in language arts instruction. Through the study of language arts students will develop written and oral skills that are necessary in becoming life-long learners of God and His word, which in turn will enable them to be salt and light to the world.
Course Objective: The students will formally study language and build interest and knowledge in grammar, writing, and punctuation.

Library/ Media Center
Philosophy Statement: Learning to use and appreciate the library is a life-long skill. It cuts across all curricular areas school-wide. “A library is a gathering of ideas, of information—put in order and shared.” (Compton’s Encyclopedia, 1993.) Every student using the library learns more about God’s truth and applying this truth to daily life. The library is a place where students can find needed information and good literature to feed their growing and developing minds.
Course Objective: Students will be introduced to materials suitable for their reading level, proper library behavior, library procedures, and book care. Students will continue their listening and sharing skills, taking turns, and getting along in a group situation. Students will become acquainted with Caldecott books and their significance in children’s literature. Students will learn about the life of Edward Lear and gain an appreciation of limericks as a form of poetry. Students will present a story in puppet play format to younger classmates. Students will find books using the card catalog. Students will understand and appreciate idioms, using Amelia Bedelia.

Philosophy Statement: God is a God of order, and through the study of mathematics, students will appreciate the orderliness, exactness, and completeness that God has infused throughout his creation. Through the study of mathematics, students can develop a better appreciation of the infinite wisdom of God when compared to the finiteness of man.
Course Objective: The students will receive instruction in and demonstrate the ability to perform basic mathematical function and problem solving in the following areas: graphs, place value, adding and subtracting whole numbers and money, multiplication, division, geometry, fractions, measurement, decimals, and probability.

Physical Education
Philosophy Statement: Physical Education is that area which centers on man and his physical development. After an individual accepts Jesus Christ as his personal
Savior, the individual should maintain and develop his body to the glory of God. Physical Education focuses on increasing student’s knowledge and affecting student’s attitudes and behaviors relative to physical activities. Through the study of many physical activities, students will be encouraged to incorporate some form of physical activity into their lifestyle.
Course Objective: Students will be encouraged to demonstrate maximum participation in physical activity. Each student will develop fundamental skills, coordination, cooperation and teamwork.

Science
Philosophy Statement: Science instruction equips students to know and experience God’s basic eternal truths revealed through His creation. Science deepens the students’ faith, understanding, and awareness of the eternal power and divine nature of God. (Romans 1:20)
Course Objective: Students will understand the order and unity of God’s creation through a study of health and nutrition, biomes, simple machines, electricity and conservation.

Course Objective: The students will learn to spell words of high frequency and high interest appropriate for the third grade level. Incorporated into the lessons are vocabulary development, grammar, phonics and word analysis skills, dictionary skills, and creative writing. Activities also incorporate Scripture verses, moral principles, missions, and Bible application.
