Derek Flack, Varsity Baseball Coach
Coach Flack is entering his 5th season as Varsity baseball coach. His DMC career record is 79-35. Coach Flack led the Lions to three straight WCAC conference titles from 2007-2009, including a sub-state berth in 2007. There have been ten 1st team all-conference performers and eight 2nd team all-conference performers during Coach Flack's tenure. There have also been 4 all-state selections and one player selected to represent the Lions in the All-Star series.
Coach Flack is a 2005 graduate of UNI majoring in Physical Education and a 2000 graduate of Simpson College majoring in Sports Administration. At Simpson, he was a four-time letter winner as a pitcher on the baseball team, and a team captain his senior year. He is currently an 8th and 9th grade Physical Education instructor at Johnston.
Before coming to DMC, Coach Flack was head Varsity baseball coach at Independence High School for three years and was an assistant baseball coach at Rockford College during the 2000-2001 season. He attended the Jim Evans Academy of Professional Umpiring in 2002 and 2003 with the hopes of becoming a professional umpire. He umpired high school and college baseball games for six years.
Coach Flack and his wife, Allison, were married in 2007. Allison is a 3rd grade teacher at Waukee Elementary. They welcomed their first child, son Easton, to their family on December 10, 2010.
