Coach Derek Flack

Derek Flack, Varsity Baseball Coach

 

Coach Flack is entering his 4th season as Varsity baseball coach. His record, through 3 seasons, at Des Moines Christian is 64-24. Coach Flack has led the Lions to three straight WCAC conference titles, including a sub-state berth in 2007. There have been eight 1st team all-conference performers and five 2nd team all-conference performers during Coach Flack’s tenure. 

 

Coach Flack is a 2005 graduate of the University of Northern Iowa majoring in Physical Education teaching and a 2000 graduate of Simpson College majoring in Sports Administration. At Simpson, he was a four-time letter winner as a pitcher on the baseball team, and he was a team captain his senior year. He is currently an 8th and 9th grade Physical Education instructor at Johnston. 

 

Coach Flack has an extensive baseball background. Before coming to DMC, he was head Varsity baseball coach at Independence High School for three years and also was an assistant baseball coach at Rockford College during the 2000-2001 season. He attended the Jim Evans Academy of Professional Umpiring in 2002 and 2003 with the hopes of becoming a professional umpire. He also umpired high school and college baseball games for six years.

 

Coach Flack and his wife, Allison, were married in 2007. Allison is in her 5th year as a 3rd grade teacher at Waukee Elementary.
