Christ alone
How can I know Jesus as my Savior and Lord, and receive eternal life?
Unlike the Santa Christmas story, the real meaning of Christmas is not about being “good boys and girls.” God did not wait for us to be good enough for His perfect Christmas Gift. In fact, He sent us His Gift because we could NOT be good enough!
You see, when Adam and Eve sinned, everyone of their descendants (including you and me) received a sin nature. So no matter how hard we try to be good, the Bible says that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). But the Bible comforts us with good news about God’s love – “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8).
So how can we receive God’s perfect Gift?
First, we have to accept the fact that we have sinned. “If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.” (I John 1:8)
Next, we must confess our sin to the Lord: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (I John 1:9)
Then, believe what Jesus Himself explained, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”(John 3:16).
Finally, receive the gift with faith! The Bible offers a sure promise to those who believe: “And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son... I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.” (I John 5:11, 13) Jesus also promised: “For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day." (I John 6:38-40)
Will this help me right now?
Your eternal life starts today! Jesus Christ not only wants to give you an eternity with him after death; He desires to live in your heart today and be the source of your joy. You can talk with Him ANY time and ANYwhere. “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.” (I John 5:14)
You can begin by praying this prayer, or, better yet, just talk to Him in your own words…
Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and that I cannot be good enough to get to heaven on my own. I can only get there by your grace. Thank you for being born in a manger and dying on the cross to pay for my sins. I ask for you to forgive my sins. Help me to accept your free gift of grace. I want to live for you. Amen
