The Need for the Total Cost of Education Fund – Annual Fund

The Annual Fund is the school’s major fund raising initiative, which supports the quality associated with a Des Moines Christian School Education. The revenue from tuition and fees cover approximately 95% of the entire cost of education, leaving a "gap" of nearly $400 per student between tuition and the actual cost of a student’s education.  Annual Fund revenues fund the gap and provide the needed revenues to support the faculty, students, and the mission of Des Moines Christian School.

The Total Cost of Education Fund is fund-raised in a variety of ways to reach as many individuals associated with the school as possible.  The Annual Fund is raised through a donation form in the enrollment packet, personal visits, direct mail solicitation, and several fund-raising events each year.  Last year gifts to the Annual Fund ranged from $5 to $100,000.  Each and every gift is appreciated.

The Need for the DMCS Gift Registry

Des Moines Christian School is committed to sound budget planning that balances the cost of faculty compensation and program improvements with the cost of tuition. To maintain that balance, the Gift Registry provides an opportunity to fund items that enhance the value of our educational offerings and improve our facilities outside of the general fund operating budget.  Gift Registry

The Need for DMCS Scholarship Assistance

Des Moines Christian School offers Christian education to any Christian parent who professes Christ as Lord, desires a Christ-centered education for their child[ren], and who agrees with the Statement of Faith and mission of the school, regardless of financial ability.

To do this, the school offers several methods of tuition assistance. Needs-based tuition assistance is provided to families who qualify through an independent income assessment. Gifts can be donated to any of the following scholarship funds. Although funds can be provided for “types” of needs (e.g. single parent families, families who have lost their jobs, minority families, etc.), per tax law, scholarships can NOT be directed to a specific family or child.

Scholarship Assistance can be donated as follows:

  • Christian Scholar Grants – budgeted scholarship assistance, appropriated in July of to the upcoming school year. (Budgeted scholarships for 2009-2010 are $60,000)

  • Restricted Scholarship Fund – funds donated above the budgeted amount are assigned proportionally to outstanding need, unless directed by the donor to a specific area of need as listed above.

  • Heart of Iowa School Tuition Organization – the Heart of Iowa STO is a completely separate entity comprised of Des Moines Christian School and several other Christian Schools.  Family need is determined by Iowa law, based on total income.  Donors receive a 65% tax credit for donations to the STO. The amount of tax credits available are determined by Iowa law. To find out more about giving, click on the Heart of Iowa STO
