The moment I first put a pointer in my hand in third grade to show my fellow calssmates where North America was I knew I was meant to be a teacher. The minute I walked into a classroom for the first time 17 years ago I felt at home. I love teaching because I love kids. They bring to the classroom excitement, drama, passion, energy, and a desire to learn. I thank God every day for allowing me to pursue the desire of my heart. I can truly say there is nothing I would rather do than teach. My husband, Steve, and I grew up in Des Moines and West Des Moines, respectively, but because of Steve's job we lived in eastern Iowa and western Illinois for twenty-five years before returning to DM in 2000. We have two terrific children, Brian and Jenn. Brian lives and works in Chicago, Jenn and her family live and work here in Des Moines. We are blessed to have two grandchildren, who are the apple of our eyes.
I graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a BA in Elementary Education with an empahsis in Library Science. I have 12+ hours in graduate credit and I am also certified by ACSI. I have 17 years of teaching experience in grades 2nd-6th. In 1989 I also had the privilege of helping start Heritage Christian School in Park View, IA.
Growing up I was blessed with wonderful parents, but sadly, unsaved. Throughout my young adulthood I was a aware of a void that I was unable and unsure of how to fill. I was 32 years old when my husband accepted the Lord. A year later God used my husband, and neighborhood friends to show me the love of Jesus Christ. As a result, I came to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and have been on a life-long pursuit ever since to grow in the grace and knowledge of Him. I count it all joy to share my faith and knowledge with my students and partner with parents in the "equipping of the next generation to think, discern, and act through biblically-directed Christ-centered education".
