Guidance & Counseling
The Des Moines Christian School K-12 guidance and counseling program facilitates spiritual, personal/social, educational, and career development in order to maximize a student’s ability to understand self and relate to others in their lifetime service to Jesus Christ. We strive to assist parents and staff in equipping all students to learn skills and competencies that affect their current and future functioning and well-being. Designed to meet the needs of all students, the program provides preventative, remedial, and developmental instruction and resources.
The guidance and counseling program will help students:
-
Develop a realistic and Biblical concept of self; including feelings, behaviors, and beliefs
-
Identify, communicate, and appropriately respond to their emotions
-
Develop and practice skills for maintaining personal safety
-
Develop and practice personal responsibility, decision-making, and goal setting
-
Develop God-honoring, effective communication
-
Develop social, interpersonal, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills
-
Understand and respect the values, attitudes, and beliefs of others
-
Adjust and function effectively in the school environment
-
Develop the skills necessary to discern God’s calling in educational planning, careers, and Godly leadership
-
Develop appropriate skills for coping with life changes and crises
