Rhythmic speech, movement, singing, games, instruments, reading, listening,
composition, improvisation and performance are all a part of the student's
elementary music experience at Des Moines Christian School. As I enter my
sixteenth year of teaching at DMCS, I'm excited to see how the children will
explore their own God-given talents while developing musical skills, knowledge
and a greater appreciation for God's gift of music. Every school day is
an adventure filled with inquisitiveness, enthusiasm and creativity!
Professionally, I hold a Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Drake
University. I am currently licensed by both the State of Iowa (K-12 music) and
the Association of Christian Schools International. I am a member of
Kodaly Educators of Iowa and OAKE and hold certification in Kodaly Levels I
& II and Orff Levels I & II. My undergraduate music studies
included pipe organ, piano and voice.
I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior after hearing the salvation
message in my mid-twenties. Looking back, I realize that God was
preparing me step-by-step to utilize my passion for music in a way that would
honor and glorify Him. It is truly a joy and blessing to teach music at
DMCS and to see students growing spiritually as well as academically. One
particular passage of scripture that has helped guide my footsteps in my daily
walk with Christ has been Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your
heart and do not lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways
acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight."
