Hot Lunch Information for 2011/2012 School Year

Lunch Information for 2011/2012 School Year
Jane Conn and Cindy Darnielle, Lunch Coordinators

Our school lunches are prepared by Webster Elementary School in Urbandale. The lunch menus are posted on our website (www.dmcs.org). At the start of school and on occasional days thereafter (Urbandale's late start days), only one option will be offered. Starting late in August chef salads will be available for 6th-12th grade students and a la cart sandwiches for 7th grade and up. Beginning in September students may choose from two entrées which are listed numerically on the menu. Students who want to order a second lunch may do so at the adult price.

ORDERING We must place our lunch order early each day. Lunches are ordered in homerooms first thing each morning. You must order a lunch to receive a lunch. If your child will be late for school and needs a hot lunch, you must call the school by 8:45 AM or there will be no lunch reserved for your child. Visitors and parents who wish to eat a hot lunch with their student also need to order by 8:45 AM. We purchase a lunch for each person who orders. If the student fails to pick up the lunch, salad or sandwich he/she ordered, the family lunch account may be charged.

MILK Skim, Chocolate Skim and 2% Milk is available each school day for purchase. If sending a lunch from home, please include all other necessary items with it. The condiments, plastic utensil and paper products at school are for those who purchase a hot lunch only. A small fee is charged to purchase these items.

LUNCH ID CARDS Full time elementary students will be issued two lunch cards with his/her name and lunch ID number on them. The cards are kept in the classroom except when in use. A white card will be used to order and pick up the #1 lunch, and a blue card will be used to order and pick up the #2 lunch. Either card may be used if the student's only purchase is milk. Elementary students will be required to bring the correct card to pick up a lunch. Secondary students will be issued one card and will enter their Lunch ID number on a key pad to make purchases.

PAYMENTS Your family's lunch account is like a checking account. To purchase lunches you must first deposit money into your account. Your family has one account with all of your children on it. Each child's lunch ID is tied to the family account. You may deposit money for all of your children's lunches with one check or payment.  You may pay online, by check or with cash.  To pay online through the school website, click on school lunch, and select the e-Funds for School Lunches tab.  This will take you to the site to create your account or log in.  You will need your family lunch account ID number from your lunch account email to set up your e-Funds account. You may pay with a credit card or through your bank account.  A small fee is charged for the service.  If you prefer to pay by check, please note on it that it is for "lunch". If you choose to send in cash to pay for lunch purchases, please send it in an envelope with your child's name, grade and teacher's name clearly marked on the outside. This will enable us to credit it to your account without delay or confusion.

ACCOUNT INFORMATION Lunch account information is available for families to view online. At the school's website (www.dmcs.org), click on "School Lunch" then on "Lunch Account" and enter your family's lunch account number and a PIN (last four digits of your home phone number or phone number entered in the lunch software), select our state and school district to log on. We will have current information on the site each school day after 6:00 p.m. Lunch account statements are sent weekly to your e-mail address, and include your family lunch account ID number. Families with no e-mail information on file will receive paper statements through your student's homeroom or first hour class. We encourage you to provide the school with an e-mail address, if possible. If your statement shows a balance with a negative number, you owe money. Please deposit at least the balance due at that time plus additional funds for future lunch purchases.

OUT OF MONEY A note or statement will be emailed or sent home when your account is out of money. Your child may also be informed in the lunch line. There will be a $10.00 credit limit per family for hot lunch and milk purchases. It is not our wish to deny any child a lunch. We expect the parents to maintain a positive balance in their family lunch account. When the account is negative $10.00, there will be no more credit and no more lunches or milks until the account has a positive balance.

FEDERAL FREE AND REDUCED PROGRAM Applications are available in the school kitchen and at the school website. We participate in the federal lunch program. Families who wish to apply must fill in a new application each school year and be approved. We are currently unable to identify families in need unless they contact us and request information or apply.  If your student is on this program only the first full meal purchased per student is charged at the free or reduced rate; milk and la cart items are charged at the full price.
