Academics
Des Moines Christian School is a non-denominational, K-12 Christian school located in Urbandale, Iowa. The school enrolls 720 students from 33 different communities and represents families from over 120 local churches. The school opened in the fall of 1948 and graduated its first senior class in 1987.
Des Moines Christian high school is accredited by the State of Iowa as a college preparatory high school enrolling 212 students in grades 9 through 12. In addition to the State of Iowa accreditation, it is certified by the Association of Christian Schools International.
The academic program is organized in eight, forty-five minute class periods per day. A minimum of 57 credits is required for graduation. 1 credit = 1 semester; 2 credits = 1 year. Graduation requirements include: 8 credits (4 years) English; 6 credits (3 years) mathematics; 6 credits (3 years) science; 4 credits (2 years) social studies; 1 credit (1 semester) Economics ; 1 credit (1 semester) American Government, 2 credits (1 year) Business/Technology; 2 credits (1year) Health; 2 credits (1 year) Physical Education; 1 credit Speech; 1 credit Fine Arts, and 15 elective credits.
