Show-Choir: Light Inc.

Purpose:

God created the world with innumerous sounds.  Since the beginning God has given music to mankind to enrich lives and to enhance man's expression of love to his Creator.  The Bible gives several instances when men and women glorify and praise God through singing and dance.  Through the study and performance of music, students can focus their gifts and talents into expressions that reflect His beauty.

Activities:

High School Show-Choir participates in state sanctioned events such as the IHSMA Show-Choir Festival, as well as various competitions and festivals throughout Iowa.

Joining (How am I selected?):

High School Show-Choir is an auditioned ensemble that is available to all students grades 9-12.  Students are required to audition vocally and physically (dance).  Songs may be selected by the choice of the person auditioning, and the dance may be something done in past experiences.  If one does not have previous dance/show-choir experience, a routine will be taught to the student so they can demonstrate their abilities at a different time.

Meetings (Practices, Rehearsals):

Rehearsals are two days/week, 90 minutes/day.  Additional rehearsals are required as competitions and festivals draw near.  Students are expected to be present at all rehearsals and performances and to participate fully in those rehearsals and performances. Unlike some other academic endeavors, in which the absence of individuals may have no appreciable impact on the work of the class, the vocal music ensemble’s ability to function optimally is directly related to the full participation of each member in each rehearsal. Vocal music students must make a commitment to give 100% effort in every rehearsal and performance.  Attendance is required at ALL PERFORMANCES AND PRE-SCHEDULED EXTRA REHEARSALS.
