Coach Howard Harris

Howard Harris, Varsity Softball Coach
Coach Harris is entering his eighth season as the varsity softball coach. He has a career coaching record of 161-75. His teams won back to back West Central Activities Conference Championships in 2006 and 2007 and his 2007, 2008 and 2011 teams were Regional Champions, earning state tournament berths. The 2007 team also had the honor of being the IGHSAU Number 1 ranked Class 1A team entering post season play.
He graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a Bachelor's Degree in Business after serving in Vietnam in the United States Army's 101st Airborne Division. He played and coached men's softball for years and is a member of the Iowa Softball Hall of Fame.
Coach Harris and his wife, Anne, have four children: Three adult children, Cliff, Deborah, and Sonja, who is a Des Moines Christian graduate, and Leah, a Lion senior participating on the softball team. He also has four grand children: Ross, Katie, Teagan and Heidi. Coach Harris is a Certified Public Accountant and currently serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of a rare earth metals engineering firm.
