Superintendent
Dr. Bob Stouffer
Dr. Bob Stouffer is a fifth generation teacher. Upon graduation from Davenport West High School Class of 1976, he majored in English and played football at Winona State University. Following graduation from WSU in 1980, he taught English classes and coached athletics in Mason City, Iowa. He assumed new responsibilities as an English teacher and coach at Pleasant Valley High School in Bettendorf, Iowa. Dr. Bob eventually earned a Fellowship and his Master of Arts degree in Educational Administration from Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State) in 1987, serving as Associate Principal of Pleasant Valley High School. He earned his doctorate in Educational Administration from The University of Iowa in 1992, serving as Principal of Urbandale High School from 1992-2000. God called Dr. Bob to serve as Superintendent of Des Moines Christian in 2000. He oversees the administrative team of 10 members and the total operation of the school. He has also taught as an adjunct professor of educational leadership for several colleges, including Drake University for 14 consecutive years. He is currently attempting to bring Christ-centered, biblically-directed general education undergraduate coursework to Greater Des Moines as competition for secular education in the community colleges.
Dr. Bob was raised in a very moral home, but he never heard the full Gospel message, even though he attended church every week as a child and an adult for 36 years. He even served as an Elder in a mainline denomination church, but he did not understand what it meant to have a personal saving relationship in the Lord Jesus Christ. The year 1994 was the pivotal year for Dr. Bob. He attended a Walk Thru the Bible Sunday school class and heard full biblical truth for the first time. At the same time, he also started attending a couples Bible study which centered on FamilyLife HomeBuilders materials by Dennis and Barbara Rainey. In addition, he began attending CrossTrainers, a weekly men's Bible study for which he now serves as one of the rotating teachers. And he attended his first (of many) PromiseKeepers events in Boulder, Colorado. All of those Bible-centered activities played a part in Dr. Bob embracing Christ as his Lord and Savior during the summer of 1994. His life, his marriage, his parenting, and his career have never been the same since. He hopes others would say that he is growing in the likeness of Christ on a daily basis and that he is perceived as -- and actually is -- a loving husband to Cheryl, his wife of 27+ years, and a dedicated father of Hannah, 14, and Molly, 23, married to a wonderful man, Jacob Flinkman. Dr. Bob is quite active in the body of Christ of Greater Des Moines, speaking frequently at churches and schools, overseeing Waukee Community Church as a founding elder, and serving as Board Chairman of the Central District of the Evangelical Free Church of America. Dr. Bob earned his Certificate of Ministry in February, and he looks forward to being fully ordained in 2012. Most recently, he also helped to found the Joshua Christian Academy, a new Christian school in inner-city Des Moines.
