Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)
The TAP program is available to ALL school families regardless of income. Families earn tuition credit when they purchase gift certificates and debit cards to be used at local and national vendors. If you are already spending money at participating vendors, TAP will benefit you financially.
Des Moines Christian School purchases gift certificates/debit cards from Great Lakes Scrip Center. Your family will receive tuition credit when you purchase certificates from the school (not when you spend the certificate). The gift certificate and percentage of tuition credit per gift certificate varies by retailer, anywhere from 1.25% - 25%. Following each vendor name, you will find a percentage listed; this is the total percentage the vendor will give directly to the school. DMCS keeps 10% of the savings to cover the cost of the program and your family will receive 90% of the savings as a tuition credit. Hy-Vee is currently our most frequently purchased gift certificate. Below is an example of how the program works:
Purchase and receive HyVee debit card $100
HyVee tuition credit percentage 3%
Total rebate on $100 card $3.00
90% to your family’s account $2.70
10% to the school for costs $0.30
Annual family saving if $100 HyVee card is purchased every week: $140.40
- Relatives and friends can also participate in TAP to benefit your account. Many of the retailers on the list are national vendors. Any cards purchased from out of town relatives must be picked up and signed for at DMCS. No orders will be mailed. Attached is an enrollment form that can be used for you or for additional people who would like to use TAP for your family. Complete this form and return it prior to or along with your first order.
- Your family account (or program of your choice) is credited once a month. Credits will be applied to the oldest student unless otherwise indicated. If you should leave the school, your credit will be transferred to one of the financial aid programs.
- To order, complete an order form and attach cash or a check for the total dollar amount you are ordering. No order will be processed without payment! Bring your order to the drop box located in the MPR next to the bulletin board by 3 p.m. on Mondays. DO NOT use the SHS envelope to send in your order.
- Filled orders are available for pick up in the Multi-Purpose room on Friday from 3:00 – 3:30 p.m., from the business office after 3:30 p.m., or from the Early Ed office on Friday from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. based on the location you have indicated on your order form. If you cannot pick up your order yourself, another adult may pick it up for you. Remember that the certificates should be treated like cash. Everyone will be asked to check their order and sign for its release. Your signature indicates your order was reviewed by you and confirms that it was filled accurately. If your order has an error, do not sign it out and have the office personnel contact the TAP coordinator immediately. The school is not responsible for your order once it has been signed out and WILL NOT replace any certificates that are lost, stolen, destroyed or expired. All TAP sales are final.
- DMCS will pre-purchase a number of the most popular certificates to be available for immediate purchase on Mondays. The “TAP Store” is held in the Multi-Purpose room from 8:15 – 9:15 Monday mornings only. The certificates are available on a first come, first served basis; there is no guarantee that you will be able to purchase all of the certificates you want immediately. Any certificates unavailable for immediate purchase can be ordered on Monday and will be available for you to pick up on Friday at the times and places listed above. Please keep in mind due to holidays and inclement weather there can be unavoidable delays on order pick up availability.
- Do not expect retailers to give change when using paper certificates. Try to have your purchase amount meet or exceed the certificate amount.
