Full-Day Childcare Camps

Des Moines Christian School offers full-day summer childcare camp for two-year-olds through students who just completed fifth grade. Sign up for the weeks you need child care by May 1. Our summer days will be filled with opportunities for your children to learn about being who God created them to be, through hands-on activities, chapel, field trips, exploring the outdoors, and learning through service. Crochet

During the LEGO Education WeDo camp, Students will be doing hands-on learning that sparks creativity and develops critical thinking skills. Students enrolled in the summer camp will use LEGO® pieces to create various projects and bring them to life using LEGO® WeDo 2.0 motors and programs. Students will learn coding basics, problem solving, and collaboration with others in order to use their inventions to accomplish various challenges throughout the week. 

Beginning Sewing

This class is for beginners that want to learn how to use a sewing machine to make projects. The beginner will gain confidence with the machine and understanding of sewing related terms. During the camp, students will be making 2-3 projects – scrunchies, small crossbody bag, simple skirt/shorts. Students may bring their own sewing machine or use one at school.

Junior Cheer Camp

This camp will be very similar to our Junior Cheerleading Clinic that the high school cheerleaders host every football & basketball season. Since we were not able to host either of these clinics this past year due to concerns of the coronavirus, we are hosting it this summer! Campers will learn 1 or 2 DMC cheers, a dance, and jumps. 5th and 6th graders usually would get to learn how to stunt as well, but that is still to be determined since that requires closer contact. Campers will receive a snack each day of camp, a bow, and a t-shirt. Parents are also invited for a performance on the last day of camp! Masks may be required at certain times, so please make sure a mask is sent with your jr. cheerleader.

Are you ready for another year of R/C fun in the sun?! Well R/C Camp is back and it will be the best one yet! Each camper will receive (and will get to keep) a hobby grade R/C car ranging from 1:16-1:12 scale. This year's cars will be U.S. made, which means that they are more durable, parts are easier to get, and they are easier to work on. Join R/C enthusiasts Clayton Denton and Gabe Ver Steeg as we race our cars through obstacle courses, drag strips, and jumps! Also, be ready to fly drones through our LED lit drone course because the drones are back too! We hope to see you there for the best R/C Camp ever!

First LEGO® League Robotics

Make your LEGO® creations come to life with the EV3 LEGO® brick controller. Using stepper motors and sensors, learn how to tackle missions while navigating on an official FIRST LEGO® League (FLL) table. Students will use teamwork, creativity, engineering, and Mindstorms programming to propel an autonomous robot across the field to accomplish its objective like a real FLL robot game. Using a Scratch-based coding software, students will learn robotic skills that they can use in the real world outside of camp!

Mac·ra·mé – the art of knotting cord or string in patterns to make decorative articles.

At this camp you will learn to make your own beautiful boho macrame wall hanging, adorable plant hanger, and keychain! This is a beginner-level camp so no prior experience is needed. You will also:

  • Receive all the materials needed to create beautiful pieces.
  • Learn how to begin a macrame piece, including an overview of necessary materials.
  • How to work a few different macrame knots, including casting on, the square knot, and the half hitch among other skills.
  • How to create design, texture, and pattern within your piece by varying the knots as you work.
  • Leave with 2-3 finished macrame projects, and the know-how to design and create more pieces on your own.
  • As time permits, we will have the opportunity to explore other textile & fiber arts such as weaving and felting.

Little Lions Show Choir

Does your little Lion (first/second grade) love to sing and dance around the house? Have they ever seen our show choir practicing in the gym and thought it looked like fun? Yoga

Come worship the Lord through motion and stillness in an hour-long yoga class.  Grow closer to the Lord with praise and worship music, and theming around scripture weaved throughout the class. As an athletic coach at DMC I have seen the physical practice increase flexibility, balance and body awareness, improve breath work, and strengthen all parts of the body. Honor and glorify God by taking care of yourself and be prepared to connect with the Word in a new way.

Love show choir or just want to try it? Come have fun with us! No previous dance or singing experience necessary! This is an additional camp to the other camp offered this summer that will be similar in structure but different also. If you can't make it to the original camp week or just REALLY love show choir and want to do both come join us! You will learn 3 choreographed numbers and we will perform them at the end of the week!

Dance/Pom Camp

Session I
June 28–July 1 (Monday-Thursday)

Grades: Entering 3rd – 5th and 6th – 8th 
Camp Minimum: 40

LOVE to dance or wish you could? Ever heard of a drill team or wanted to try one? This camp will teach beginning basics and routines that you would have in a school dance team. You will learn 3-4 dances that range from pom - jazz - lyrical - and possibly others! Again no dance experience required, this is just to learn and have fun! We will perform our routines at the end of the week! 

July and August Camps

Soccer (Boys and Girls)

Campers will get a chance to play soccer and learn from some of the DMC high school students. Passing, dribbling, and shooting will be a primary focus. Campers will need to come prepared with water, a ball, cleats.

Come join Coach Matt Waring and his staff for 1 evening football camp kickoff this summer. The camp will be open to grades 3-6 for a 1 evening skills and fundamentals camp. Learn some football basics and meet our Des Moines Christian Lions football coaches and players.
