This summer, a team comprised of board members, association members and employees began the process of soliciting, vetting and interviewing applicants for the newly created position of Director of Business.
After interviewing several candidates, the team recommended to the DMCS School Board that they appoint Mrs. Julia Veenstra to the position of Director of Business for DMCS, which they did at the October 12 board meeting. Julia not only brings significant financial expertise to the position but also a great deal of organizational memory which will serve the school well as we begin a new chapter at DMCS.
Prior to her employment at Des Moines Christian School, where she has been the Business Manager for the past 17 years, Julia worked as a CPA for Coopers and Lybrand for three years. She then was employed by EDS for seven years in various roles including staff accountant, controller, division controller, and general manager of operations.
Julia and her husband Joel are members of Crossroads Church in West Des Moines. They are parents of Jessa (Veenstra) Frye (DMC '11), Luke (DMC '14) and Grant (DMC '21). Julia's role will have some similar elements to her current position, but will remove direct responsibility for HR work and add more responsibility for the leadership of the business team, working closely with the Director of Education to create the very best environment possible for teaching and learning and for faith formation to thrive in the lives of our students.
