Heather Nerem
Head of Academics

As Head of Academic, Mrs. Nerem leads the innovation, alignment, and execution of DMC academics from early education programs through high school. She is committed to Biblical integration and remaining Christ-centered in all academics. Her vision aligns with DMC’s commitment to spiritual development and deeper learning for our students and professional growth for our educators. She is passionate about building positive cultures and servant-hearted leadership.

Mrs. Nerem joined the DMC team as Director of Early Education in 2019 with a wealth of experience in educational leadership. She continue to oversee this department in her current role.  

Mrs. Nerem has served in a variety of positions throughout her education career, equipping her with a unique combination of skills, insights, and rich experiences. She worked in Des Moines Public Schools as an instructional specialist and Special Educational Curriculum Facilitator, and then as Elementary Principal and Director of Elementary Curriculum and Instruction at Dallas-Center Grimes. She has been actively involved with MOPS (Mothers of Preschool Students) and served as the Director of Community Development for Creative Habitat, a non-profit organization that provides a co-working space for parents and a play space for preschool children.

Mrs. Nerem attended the University of Northern Iowa for both her BA in Elementary Education with a minor in Special Education and her Masters of Education.
