23-24 SCIBA Large Group

On Saturday, February 10, 2024 the DMC Middle School Concert Band and Jazz Band participated in the South Central Iowa Bandmasters Association Large Group Festival at Norwalk Middle School and High School. The jazz bands performed in the Norwalk Middle School gym and the concert bands performed in the Norwalk Performing Arts Center.

DMC Middle School Jazz Band - Mr. Lane directed our DMC MS Jazz Band in a performance of three selections in different jazz styles. My Dinner with Ronald by Dean Sorenson, Bubbert Goes Retro by Mike Steinel and Uncle Milo’s Side Show by Dean Sorenson. Soloists included Grady Mann '28, Trumpet; Ryan Rosel '28, Alto Saxophone; Xayne Howard '28, Guitar; and Finley Rippey '28, Trumpet. The MS Jazz band earned a Division I rating from judges John Lewis and Ryan McNaulty.  

7-8 Concert Band - The DMC 7-8 Concert Band performed three selections of varying styles including Rhythmania! By Carol Brittin Chambers, As Shadows Fall by Rob Romeyn and Shadows Unleashed by Brian Balmages. There are eight focal points of the ballot including tone quality, intonation, rhythmic accuracy, balance/blend, technique, interpretation and musicianship, articulation and other performance factors (communicating to/with the audience, poise, posture, horn angles, professionalism, etc.). The judge-clinicians were Brad Lampe from Central College and Drake Van Roekel from Winterset High School. Our 7-8 Concert band earned the highest possible rating of a I+ from both judges.
