From DMC to America's Ideal Miss: Marisa Mathson ('23)

For DMC alumna Marisa Mathson ('23), being crowned 2026 America's Ideal Miss is about far more than earning a title—it's about using the platform to make a difference.

She has been competing in pageants since she was 12 years old, an experience she says has shaped her in countless ways. "Pageants have taught me skills that have helped me succeed academically, in business, in leadership, and in life," she shares. "Most importantly, they've shown me how to use my gifts for God's glory."

The opportunity has also given her a platform to serve others through her literacy initiative, Just Turn the Page, which encourages children to discover a love of reading. As the 2026 America's Ideal Miss, she's excited to continue visiting schools, promoting literacy, and investing in the next generation.

Her foundation for that work began at Des Moines Christian.

"Attending DMC from kindergarten through graduation taught me to keep my faith at the forefront of everything I do," she says. "The teachers and counselors who poured into me helped build the strong Christian foundation that allows me to stand firm in my values today and trust God's plan for my life."

Recently, she returned to DMC to read to early education students and share the importance of kindness and literacy. The visit was especially meaningful because it allowed her to invest in the same community that invested so deeply in her.

"I have a big heart for mentoring the next generation," she says. "Being able to come back to a place that played such a significant role in my own life and encourage these students was incredibly special.”
