Des Moines Christian Schools invites parents and community members to Parent University on September 24 from 6:30–8:15 p.m., featuring Christina Crook, founder and CEO of JOMO and a leading voice in digital wellness.

JOMO—which stands for the “Joy of Missing Out”—is a leading digital wellness program serving K–12 schools across the United States, Canada, and Australia. Through JOMO, Crook equips educators, students, and families with practical tools to foster focus, creativity, and connection in an always-on world.

Crook is the award-winning author of The Joy of Missing Out: Finding Balance in a Wired World and Good Burdens: How to Live Joyfully in a Digital Age and speaks internationally on the intersection of technology, relationships, and joy.

Rather than approaching technology through fear or shame, JOMO encourages families to consider what they want technology to make room for. The goal is not simply less screen time, but greater intentionality—learning when to disconnect from digital noise in order to be more present for the people, experiences, and priorities that matter most. Psychology Today has described JOMO as an antidote to FOMO (fear of missing out), emphasizing intentional use of time, tech-free breaks, human connection, and being present rather than constantly trying to keep up online.

During Parent University, Crook will share insights and practical tools parents can use to help their families navigate an increasingly connected world with greater purpose and balance. The evening will offer an opportunity to think differently about our digital habits and how we can help children develop healthy relationships with technology that support connection, learning, and flourishing.

Crook lives in Toronto, Canada, with her family. Outside of her work, rowing and writing letters bring her joy.

We hope you’ll join us! RSVP for Parent University here.
