The Weimann Family: “We Were Hooked Right Then and There”

DMC parents Chris and Amanda Weimann, parents of Fletcher (‘32) and Josie (‘35), said Des Moines Christian has been “intentionally transformative” for their family. 

Amanda and Chris became aware of DMC during their search for a smaller, community-focused setting for their son Fletcher. During a tour of DMC that included a stop in the weekly chapel, they fell in love with the school. Amanda shares that both she and Chris had tears in their eyes listening to “all those precious little voices praising the Lord together. We were hooked, right then and there,” she said.  

They had already submitted an application for Fletcher before their tour and were thrilled when he was accepted. Later, they were contacted that an additional spot had become available for their daughter, Josie.

The Wiemanns share that they have loved the middle school transition and their ambassador family, the Cassidys, who have helped them adjust to DMC. 

“Our quiet son actually participated in class and read aloud in Bible class the first day he was there,” Amanda shares. “We are especially thankful for the leadership team—Head of Middle School Mr. Town, Middle School Assistant Principal Mr. Hamer, and Middle School School Counselor Mrs. Scarrow—for the way they intentionally supported Fletcher as he transitioned into a new school.”

The Weimanns have also appreciated the middle school's House System, which brings students from multiple grade levels together to build relationships and community. Fletcher quickly embraced being part of House Amarantos.

“There is such intentionality and passion for the teachers to be there; you can tell it’s not just a job for them. They truly care about each and every student,” Amanda said.

The Wiemann family is looking forward to another year at DMC and becoming even more involved. “This school has been such a blessing to us; we trust DMC with our children and that they know what to do. It really is a different culture when you can truly and openly love and serve God in a school setting,”  Amanda said.
